A couple of years ago, there were some trams with machines payable on the tram. But it accepted only coins.
Now brand new machines are placed. It’s very convenient for tourists. No need to go to the central station or ask around where to obtain tickets.
Just hop on, do the touch-less. It is just like in London’s tubes, train & buses!
